It's never too late right?
Although I'm starting to narrow in on my BFA project and how that will manifest, there's always tests and experiments that need to be done.
After meeting with Deborah it became clear my interest lies mostly in the process of making and creating, the formal qualities of paint and manipulation of materials are what I hope to explore. The aesthetic and inherent visual qualities of the piece should speak for themselves, while the recurring elements in my work (such as patterning and the figure) are more of just tools to allow me to play with the medium of painting.
For my piece for the show I am still using the figural triptych completed last quarter, but working with building up and destroying the canvas to create a more dimensional and fresh take on the figure. I played with some old oil paintings and applied house paint, acrylic paint, cutting, sewing, and readhering (although the letters were tested using tape, so that's not permanent).

you are brave! I'm curious to see how things are evolving - I'll be sneaking through the studios but will see you Thursday -
Hi Kim!
Mia and I were looking at your paintings during our meetings with everyone last Thursday, and we were very interested in your red flower/green foliage/text painting! What we loved most about it was how the text cut out of the canvas was hidden by the information of the actual painting and because of the fact that there were images behind the canvas as well (from your bulletin board behind the painting). We were discussing how different the painting would be against a white wall, where the text would be very readable. We really enjoyed the way in which the text was not immediately legible, and thought perhaps you might consider how to replicate that by placing other imagery/collage behind the painting?
I'd love to talk to you more about this!
