Critique with Hung Liu
First of all, it was such an honor to be able to hear Hung Liu speak as well as get her feedback on my personal work and BFA project.
Most of the critique she spent recommending artist to look at. She really liked my pieces from my Independent Study fall quarter with the swatches of color over the figure. She suggested dry brushing on paper to get more of a streaky paintstroke then mimicking that to create something with more dimensionality (as the current patterned stroke is very flat). She complimented my figure work and showed me artists such as Wangechi Mutu and Yu Hong. Wangechi uses collage as an element of her very textural and sometimes grotesque portraits. Yu Hong uses her photorealistic painting skills to create surreal settings with people.
Overall it was a pretty good critique, although no pointed advice was given regarding my current project. I enjoyed the recommended artists works.
