In a similar manner to my 2" x 2" stipple drawings I did of various facial expressions for "Greyscale", I have started to pull imagery from television/film sources specifically of hands. More specifically, of hands interacting with other hands. The idea with this, as with the"Greyscale" drawings, is to look at the hands as a medium of expression, and to study the interaction as a way of identifying what kind of relationship exists between two or more characters. I have noticed that within one television show especially, (spoiler alert, it's Doctor Who), hands and holding hands runs through the new series as a sort of theme, or at least, it occurs enough within the show to have provoked my interest.
As soon as I decided this was something I was interested in, I began sketching from screenshots I took of the show. In total, there were four that looked like this:
(Apologies for the cell phone photos)
Originally, I thought these would all be done in illustration marker, which still persists as my favorite medium. But after inking the first drawing, I decided (with Catherine's help) that it may be best to experiment with a few different media. I hope to have at least three done by tomorrow's critique, all of them drawn with something different, and to discuss the various successes and failures of each, and to find out what may be appropriate for moving forward.
