This week I experimented with a new technique. For a project in my ceramics class, I used cake decorating tools to pipe clay "frosting" onto a form and I am very excited with the result and how well the technique works. After a lot of trial and error, I was able to get the clay to the consistency of frosting. I'm very pleased with the result and want to keep experimenting using this technique. I am very drawn to the texture that the layering of the frosting creates and the high detail that I am able to achieve. Using this technique feels so natural to me and I could literally sit there all day "decorating" the form. I know that this is completely different from what I have been working on and is a separate body of work, but I feel excited about this and where it could go, so I'd like to keep experimenting with it.

wow! There's a sense of fun in this piece - have you looked at Cornelia Parker?
I haven't but I will take a look at her work!
I'm sure Mia may have recommended this artist already, but check out the work of ceramic artist Walter McConnell. He was here a couple years ago as a visiting artist, and you might find his work interesting as well...
